MacMillan Dictionary: a great resource for pronunciation and cultural information. You need to set your options for American here: http://www.macmillandictionary.com/options.html  The transcription is not exactly what we learn together, but you can listen to the words as they are pronounced (press the speaker button).

A great online pronunciation guide  for personal names, names of places, etc.:  http://inogolo.com/ Just type in the word - and voila! Another great resource if the Voice of America Pronunciation Guide: http://pronounce.voanews.com/
